I recently posted on our staff technology Facebook page for teachers to share what technology tools and resources they are using in their classrooms. They also shared how they integrate it in their teaching and learning and how it affects student engagement. I had great collaboration happening in this post, and I learned about so many awesome things happening in just our building. I also learned about a couple new tools that I hadn't heard of before and started to implement in my own classroom. This was a quick and easy way to reach out to staff and share with each other the amazing happenings in our teaching. I also learned that these conversations need to be happening so much more often.

Technology Coaching Experience

During my graduate course, Technology Coaching and Leadership, the final project that I worked on throughout the course was to coach someone and help them integrate a new technology tool that matched their curriculum that would hopefully provide an increase in student engagement. I chose to coach a teacher that I already co-teach within 6th grade Language Arts. There were a few reasons I chose Annie.

The Technology Struggle is Real

When technology doesn't go as planned...

Today was one of those days in the teaching world where you thought your plans were spot on. When I reviewed those plans the night before, I felt I had touched on things that could go wrong just in case. What I didn't plan for was extensions being blocked on student computers.

Lesson Plan Objectives

• Introduce the Classroom Blog to students.
• Show them how to navigate the blog.
• Share student guidelines and have students sign a waiver.
• Create student avatars.
• Write a paragraph about themselves and upload their avatar to the slide.

How do we help our students navigate safely online?

As teachers, so much responsibility falls on us when it comes to teaching our students Internet safety and online etiquette. It starts with us educating ourselves so that we can model and teach our students. Even though this is the world they have grown up in and they don't know any different, they still do not know how to conduct themselves in the digital world appropriately. 

My Favorite Technology Tool

Why is FlipGrid my favorite platform you might ask? Just thinking and talking about FlipGrid gets me so giddy and excited. This is the one tool that I began implementing in my classroom with my 5th and 6th-grade special education students last school year that is still effective and continues to keep students actively engaged. I learn new ways to match it to my instruction that continues to excite and keep my students engaged in their learning. A few reasons I love FlipGrid is because it's a free platform, it can be used on any device at any time, anywhere, and my students have a voice.
