Technology Coaching Experience

During my graduate course, Technology Coaching and Leadership, the final project that I worked on throughout the course was to coach someone and help them integrate a new technology tool that matched their curriculum that would hopefully provide an increase in student engagement. I chose to coach a teacher that I already co-teach within 6th grade Language Arts. There were a few reasons I chose Annie.

  1. I already had established a wonderful relationship with her.
  2. We both know each other's personalities like the back of our hands
  3. I know the Language Arts curriculum.
  4. Annie and I constantly reflect on needs in her classroom.
We already knew our need was to get our students writing more and writing for a purpose. When I started this blog, I was sharing how much fun it was and how I'd like to do this with my students someday. Annie then suggested she'd be interested in learning more about it. That's when my light bulb went off. I knew exactly what I was going to do for my final project, and that was to help Annie integrate a classroom blog so students could write continuously over time, write for a purpose, and write for an audience.

Annie had wonderful suggestions and we fed off each other well as we went through the phases of the collegial coaching cycle. I was pleased with our outcome and I'm excited about our future with our classroom blog. Our students are paying closer attention to their writing than they ever have before. They also like that there is a purpose for their writing and that it's being published. Below is a link to our classroom blog. Enjoy!
