When technology doesn't go as planned...
Today was one of those days in the teaching world where you thought your plans were spot on. When I reviewed those plans the night before, I felt I had touched on things that could go wrong just in case. What I didn't plan for was extensions being blocked on student computers.
Lesson Plan Objectives
- Introduce the Classroom Blog to students.
- Show them how to navigate the blog.
- Share student guidelines and have students sign a waiver.
- Create student avatars.
- Write a paragraph about themselves and upload their avatar to the slide.

What I didn't plan for, was the Google Chrome Extensions being blocked by the administration. Oops! You would think that should have been a thought of mine so I could have planned in advance and reached out to our technology team, but it completely escaped my mind. Thank goodness they answered their phone right away and they had me submit a trouble ticket so that could be done right away.
While we waited for administration to unblock the Avatar Extension, we had the students skip to the slideshow presentation that was shared with all of them through Google Classroom. Each student was assigned a slide and they started writing their introductions about what makes them unique.
After about five minutes, the administration had the extension unblocked and the students were able to begin designing their avatars that will go on their blog posts instead of their real picture.
While it could have been a lot worse, it did take time away from other plans happening. But there is always tomorrow, right? The students love their avatars and the experience they are having getting ready to post their first blog post.
